I am happy to announce that although several KCP debaters did not compete at this weekend's tournament, our team still was successful. Here are our accomplishments from tournament 2:
1) Stephen Mack won the 5th Place Varsity Speaker Award
2) Stephen Mack and Clarissa McWoodson won a quarterfinalist trophy finishing w/ a 4-1 record as the 4th seed team going into their quarterfinal round.
3) Kendall Mason was the 12 Place Varsity Speaker
4) Kendall Mason competed for his first time as a Varsity level debater.
5) Adrenna Eagle debated at her very first tournament ever and stepped up to the plate for filling in as a Varsity debater when we needed her to do so. Judges commented that they would never know it was her very first time debating.
Kendall and Adrenna should be very proud that they finished w/ a 2-3 record for their very fist time debating at the Varsity level. This is a great first time record.
Our only Junior Varsity team competing at tournament 2 was LaDonna Miller and Tamir Williams who also finished w/ a 2-3 record.
Our next tournament is the Mid-Season Classic at DePaul University on Dec. 12th and 13th. We expect to have the entire team competing. Between now and then, there will be more intense practices, an empahsis on making our Junior Varsity teams more eompetitive, and a focus on preparing new evidence for our Varsity teams. Varsity will also focus on more effective negative strategies.
