Next Week's Practices/Info. for Tournament 2

Dear Debaters and Parents:

Next Week's Practices:
Since this is a week of a tournament, we will have extra practices as follows: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday for Junior Varsity and Varsity. Thursday for Varsity only. All practices will start at 3:45 pm and end between 5 and 5:30 pm.

Location and Transportation for Tournament 2:
Next week's tournament will be held on Fri. 10/31 and Sat. 11/1 at Von Steuben High School. Von Steuben is located on North Kimball Avenue, just South of Foster. Since we have very few debaters participating in this tournament, we may be sharing a bus w/ Dunbar this time.

Safety Measures:
The Office of High School Programs has assured that extra security measures are in place for this tournament. The tournament site will have extra security officers in place, and there will also be extra Chicago Police around both King and Dunbar during the time we arrive back from the tournament on Halloween night.

Tournament Schedule:
The bus will take us to the tournament around 1:30 pm on Friday because the bus drivers have their regular routes after 3 pm. We will arrive back from the tournament on Friday between 9:30 and 10 pm. On Saturday, students will need to be at King at 7:45 am. The first round starts at 8:30 am. If none of our teams break into elimination rounds, we will be back at King by no later than 7 pm on Saturday. Since the schedule is always contingent upon our teams breaking into elimination rounds, our departure times on Saturdays always vary from tournament to tournament. Students are allowed to use my cell phone to contact parents if they don't have a phone available.

Meals:
Students will receive free dinner on Friday, continental breakfast on Saturday, and lunch on Saturday. If we break into elimination rounds, we also receive dinner.

Team Hoodies and Other Items:
So far only 1 student has turned in money for a team hoodie. We can't order our hoodies unless everyone turns in their money ASAP. Also, we will be ordering team jackets which are optional. If you have seen the new band jackets, then you'll know what I am interested in ordering. These are black track jackets w/ 2 yellow stripes down the sides of each arm. They are really sharp Fall jackets. Ours will have the debate team logo on the front. Each student may also have his or her name on the jacket if they wish. We may have KCP in yellow letters on the back of the jacket. It will all be based on feedback from students who are interested in purchasing a jacket.

Need More Debaters:
Students: If you have any friends who you think may be interested in joining the KCP debate team, please give me their names and contact information. We need more debaters on the team. A few people have left the team due to time constraints, lack of interest, etc. Here are the requirements:

1) Student MUST commit to at least ONE practice per week.
2) Student must commit to competing at each of our remaining tournaments of the year.
3) Student needs to be responsible, reliable, and a quick learner.
4) Student must be willing to attend a summer debate workshop if he or she is interested in competing on the team next year.
